Vol. 142 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state in regard to the transfer of the post office at Tagoat, County Wexford, (a) the hourly rate of remuneration paid to engineers and workmen engaged; (b) cost of transport, and (c) how the sum of £2 10s. mentioned in a reply to a question on 3rd November was arrived at.

The Deputy is evidently under the impression that small works and repairs of this kind are subject to costing before the work is carried out and checked later. Such is not the practice in any efficient engineering organisation for work not subject to invoicing to a particular person.

In order to reduce overhead costs. the cost of such a removal is estimated approximately at the figure given in the reply to an earlier question. There will, of course, be minor variations owing to unforeseen circumstances, but none involving any question of principle.

Can the Minister say how long it took to transfer the post office equipment from one place to another?

I have not got the figures readily available, but it is estimated approximately beforehand.

They did a very fast job, if it cost only £2 10s.
