Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Investments in Irish Shipping Limited.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, in regard to Irish Shipping Limited, what State investment was made in this company in each of the years 1951, 1952 and 1953 to date; and if he will give an outline of the company's future plans, particularly as the Government propose to utilise State revenue for investment in the company.

No advance from State funds was made to Irish Shipping Limited in the years 1951, 1952 or in 1953 to date.

Of the tonnage at present on order by Irish Shipping Limited a dry cargo vessel of 9,000 tons deadweight, fitted with refrigerated space, is expected to be delivered next month; a coastal tanker of 3,000 tons deadweight is due for delivery in 1954, and a further seven vessels on order are due for delivery between 1955 and 1957, including an additional collier for the cross-Channel trade.
