asked the Taoiseach if he will give particulars of the number of new passports issued to persons who stated in their application forms that they were leaving the country to take up employment or permanent residence abroad for each of the years 1950, 1951, 1952 and for the first three quarters of this year.

The number of passports issued to persons who stated in their application forms that they were leaving the country to take up employment or permanent residence abroad amounted in the year 1950 to 4,653, in 1951 to 4,204, in 1952 to 4,563, and in the first six months of 1953 to 2,948. Later particulars for the current year are not yet available.
