Vol. 143 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Water Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received an urgent request from the ratepayers of Affane district, County Waterford, and the members of the Waterford County Council for his permission for the extension of the Lismore-Cappoquin water scheme to include this district; and, if so, if he will have the matter reconsidered with a view to meeting the wishes of the interested parties.

No such request has been received in the Department from thelocal ratepayers, but the county council on the 10th August last passed a resolution requesting the immediate inclusion in the work to be executed of extensions to Affane and Tourin.

They were informed in reply that the magnitude of the scheme, estimated to cost £92,000, made it essential that it be completed and tested in operation before extensions could be considered. Apart from this decision, arrived at for engineering reasons, it was pointed out that the proposed extensions would involve an expenditure of £366 for each house that could be served thereby.
