Vol. 143 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Holidays (Employees) Act, 1939.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is prepared to introduce proposals for legislation to amend Section 2 (a) of the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1939, so as to alter the figure of £350 at present contained therein to £700.

While legislation was needed in 1939 to establish the practice of granting annual holidays with pay to employees, it is my opinion that the practice is now so generally established that legislation is not needed. There is no present intention of introducing proposals for the amendment of the 1939 Act but I agree that if amending legislation should be deemed to be desirable at any time the limitation to which the question refers should be reconsidered.
