Vol. 144 No. 1

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - District Court Scale of Costs.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that no scale of costs is in existence suitable to deal with District Court cases in the new jurisdiction arising under the Courts of Justice Act, 1953, and, if so, if he will accordingly take steps to ensure that the matter is dealt with without further delay.

Mr. Boland

The provision of scales of costs for the District Court and also for the Circuit Court is a matter for the respective rules committees. The sole function of the Minister for Justice is to concur or not to concur in the making of any rules. I understand that the provision of new rules to cover the matter in issue is under consideration by the committees.
