Vol. 144 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Baron Park Housing Inspections.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that some 40 houses in the Baron Park housing scheme, Clonmel, were not inspected by his Department's inspector on his visit, that since the inspector's visit widespread repairs have been carried out in the majority of the remaining houses of the scheme and that notwithstanding these repairs there is still grave discontent as to the condition of the houses; and, if so, if he will have a detailed inspection carried out and a report made on the scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that, notwithstanding the report of the Department engineer on the Baron Park housing scheme, Clonmel, in which it is stated that the houses were sound except for minor faults, the house at No. 29 Baron Park has developed a serious crack in the main wall; and, if so, if he will arrange to have a detailed inspection carried out and a report made on this house.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 12 and 13 together.

The Baron Park housing scheme comprises three sections. The majority of the houses in the first section were inspected by the Department's inspector and various minor defects found by him have since been rectified. I understand that the condition of the houses, including No. 29 Baron Park, generally is satisfactory and that they are free from structural defects. A further inspection of the scheme will be made before the expiration of the maintenance period for the second section of the scheme.
