Vol. 145 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reopening of County Galway School.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether his Department has yet decided on the reopening of Loorha National School, Dunmore, County Galway; and, if not, why not.

I find on examination of this matter that there are six national schools within a radius of three miles of the disused Loorha schoolhouse, which is now in a derelict condition. In view of the existing school facilities in the area I do not consider that the restoration of State grants to Loorha school is warranted.

I take it that that school is not going to be reopened?

I think that is the obvious meaning of the reply.

It is surprising then that the Minister and Deputy Killilea visited the area some time ago and, for propaganda purposes, promised the people that the school would be reopened.
