Vol. 145 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limestone Spreaders.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that a ground limestone plant is now in operation in Kilgarvan, County Kerry, and that owing to the nature of the soil in all the surrounding area lorries cannot be used for spreading the material; and, if so, if he will ask the Dairy Disposals Board to get the local creamery to acquire suitable spreaders for hiring to farmers requiring them or alternatively make provision by which spreaders may be made available to farmers by way of grant and loan or other reduced terms.

Mr. Walsh

I am aware that arrangements are being made for the production of ground limestone at Kilgarvan, County Kerry. As regards the provision of spreaders, I am asking the Dairy Disposal Company to consider the matter. There are no funds at my disposal under which farmers could obtain spreaders on reduced terms but loans for the purpose are available on the same conditions as for other types of agricultural machinery.
