Vol. 146 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Embankment Repair.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the reason for the long delay in dealing with an application in connection with repair of embankments of the holding of a certain farmer at Stonehouse, Kilmeaden, County Waterford (Folio 4575, Rate No. 12341, County Council of Waterford) and if he will state whether a decision on the case has yet been reached; and, if not, when it will be dealt with.

The landholders concerned in the matter covenanted in 1920 to maintain these embankments themselves; thus the Land Commission has no liability in the matter. But in case the work would prove too heavy for the tenants the Land Commission have decided to have the work examined, and this examination has been carried out. There has been no avoidable delay on the part of the Land Commission and I will have the Deputy's desire for an early decision conveyed to the commissioners.

In view of the fact that an application was made in November, 1951, does the Minister not think that the delay that has taken place in this case has been unreasonable? Surely a delay of three years is unreasonable, even for the Land Commission?

Not for the Land Commission.

Question No. 23.
