Vol. 146 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Leitrim Cemetery.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the public uneasiness caused in Jamestown, County Leitrim, by the proposal to close the cemetery in that district, and that in view of the very considerable distance to the next cemetery, grave inconvenience will be caused in the area if the proposal is carried out, and, also, if he is aware that land has been offered by residents of Jamestown for the extension of the existing cemetery; further, if he will state whether he has yet received the report of the inspector who recently held a public sworn inquiry into the proposed closing of the cemetery; and, if so, whether he will ensure that no decision will be taken which would conflict with the wishes of the people in the area and if he will make a statement in the matter.

The report of the inspector who recently held a public inquiry into the condition of the Jamestown burial ground has not yet been received. Pending receipt of the report and consideration of the evidence taken at the inquiry, I am not in a position to make a statement on the matter.
