Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition: Loss of Employment.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the number of cases of persons displaced from employment by the taking over of land by the Land Commission which fell to be dealt with under Section 29 of the Land Act, 1950; (b) the number of cases to date in which compensation was payable; (c) the average amount of such compensation, and (d) the number of cases in which compensation was refused.

The number of persons displaced from employment whose cases fell to be dealt with under Section 29 of the Land Act, 1950, is 89 to date. Compensation was payable in all these cases and the average award was £125. No person who came within the provisions of Section 29 was refused a gratuity.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of persons allotted holdings of land in lieu of loss of employment in cases where the Land Commission took over the lands on which such persons were employed from the passing of the Land Act, 1950, to date.

The number is 100, of whom 77 were allotted full holdings.
