Vol. 146 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of Limerick City (a) the estimated number of houses required to solve the housing demand, (b) the number of houses at present under construction, (c) the number of houses awaiting construction, and (d) the date by which it is expected that the entire housing requirements will be met.

Limerick Corporation estimate that they must provide approximately 1,250 further houses to meet the present housing requirements of working class families in the city.

114 houses are in course of construction.

A tender for the erection of 40 houses was recently accepted by the corporation and tenders will be invited shortly for a further 150 houses.

It is not possible at present to indicate when the entire housing requirements of the city will be completely satisfied.

Could I suggest to the Parliamentary Secretary that there is a scheme in operation in Limerick City at the present time whereby flats are being erected, and could I elicit from the Parliamentary Secretary whether it is the policy of the Government to continue with the erection of flats?

The question has reference to estimates, number of houses under construction, or awaiting construction, and dates. It has no reference to what the Deputy is putting now. It is quite a different question.
