Vol. 146 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Health Services.

asked the Minister for Health if he will take the steps necessary to relieve the ratepayers of Limerick City from the unique position of this city compared with others, whereby a very heavy burden has been placed on their shoulders in connection with payment for health services; and if he will make a similar contribution towards the alleviation of the burden in the coming financial year, as was made by the last Government.

I am prepared to honour the promise given by my predecessor which was to meet specially for the current year only and pending further consideration, any excess of the actual net expenditure on certain health services over the produce of a rate of 17.35 pence in the £, should such excess occur.

I propose to examine the position again in good time before the commencement of the coming financial year.
