Vol. 147 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Migration to County Meath.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of holdings of land being prepared in County Meath for occupation by migrants during the coming year and the number of acres involved.

It is impossible to be accurate at this stage and the best forecast that can be made is that 21 holdings comprising about 900 acres in County Meath are likely to be offered to migrants in the coming year.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say if these 21 holdings are to be given altogether to migrants or is there a possibility of some of the land being given to local applicants?

I have said that 21 holdings comprising about 900 acres in County Meath are likely to be offered to migrants in the coming year.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that practically 100,000 acres of the best land in the Midlands have passed into the hands of aliens? Could that extra number of holdings not be used for the applicants to which the Deputy refers.

That is a separate question.
