Vol. 147 No. 5

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenants' Petition.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission received a petition some time ago from the congested tenants on the ffrench estate at Ballynacorra (ffrench), Ballygar, County Galway, requesting the resumption of a holding in that locality, and, if so, what steps have been taken in the matter; further, if he will state what other steps the Land Commission propose to take to relieve the congestion in this area.

Following upon a petition received early this year the Land Commission made inquiries regarding a holding in Ballynacorra (ffrench) and ascertained that it had been sold in separate lots to three local small-holders; they thereupon decided to take no further action.

In the last two seasons the Land Commission have carried out some rearrangement schemes in Cloonshivna, Cloonshivna (Kelly) and Kilclogh and have provided almost £14,000 for improvement works in those townlands.

Further proposals are under consideration for the relief of congestion in this area through migration.
