Vol. 147 No. 5

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the price paid by the Forestry Branch of his Department for the Castlebernard estate, Kinnitty, (b) the price for which portion of the estate was purchased by the Land Commission from the Forestry Branch, and (c) the amount realised from conacre lettings and timber sales.

That portion of Kinnitty Forest known as the Castlebernard estate was acquired from a private owner by negotiation and it is not customary in such cases to disclose the purchase price. Lettings and sales of timber are made by the normal process of open competition and it would not be in the public interest to disclose figures for such revenue from a particular property.

The price for that portion of the estate which the Land Commission are now taking over from the Forestry Division is £5,053.
