Vol. 147 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices Advisory Body.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what reports he has received from the Prices Advisory Body in regard to recent investigations carried out by them.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the commodities in respect of which the Prices Advisory Body have carried out price investigations since 1st August, 1954, and the commodities in respect of which price investigations are at present being conducted by that body.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 4 and 5 together.

Since 1st August, 1954, the Prices Advisory Body has undertaken public investigations into the prices of tea, fertilisers, bacon, pork and turf briquettes.

I have received from the Prices Advisory Body reports in respect of fertilisers and bacon and an interim report on tea prices. The report in regard to turf briquettes is, I understand, in course of preparation.

In this period the Prices Advisory Body has also carried out a number of private investigations into prices and profits of various manufacturing and distributing concerns. The commodities concerned were coal, gas, biscuits, cigarettes and tobacco, meat, tyres and tubes and perambulators.
