Vol. 148 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Christmas Mail Deliveries.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state why Christmas mail posted in the United States of America in early November was not delivered in this country until January.

A heavy consignment of approximately 3,600 bags of parcel mail, some of which had been posted in November, was despatched from America on 8th December and was not received in this country until 29th December. The mails had then to be cleared through the customs and it was not possible to effect delivery until January. There was no delay in their treatment by the Irish Post Office.

Representations are being made to the American Post Office regarding the undue time occupied in the despatch and transmission of the mails.
