Vol. 148 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emergency Schemes.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give details of the emergency fuel schemes administered by the Limerick Corporation and Limerick County Council.

The scheme for the supply of fuel to necessitous persons resident in Limerick City provides for the issue each week of 1 cwt. of machine turf to:—

1. Persons in receipt of home assistance.

2. Persons in receipt of unemployment assistance who have dependents.

3. Persons in receipt of old age, blind, or widows' and orphans' pensions.

4. Persons with low weekly incomes who satisfy the local authority that they are in need of assistance to procure sufficient fuel.

Home assistance recipients receive the fuel free of charge. The other classes pay a contribution of 1/6 per cwt.

The current scheme commenced on the 1st December, 1954, and will terminate not later than the 31st March, 1955. A grant of £4,800 has been provided to meet the net cost of the fuel issued under the scheme.

There is no scheme in operation in the area administered by the Limerick County Council.
