Vol. 148 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Church Holidays.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has under consideration a proposal to grant Church holidays with pay to employees of the Office of Public Works, and, if so, what is the present position in the matter.

The answer is in the negative. In certain cases employees of the Office of Public Works are granted Church holidays with pay, in substitution for public holidays, in accordance with the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 and the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1939.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the officials of his Department discussed this matter with the trade union concerned several months ago and will he state why they did not have the courtesy to give a reply, if they had taken a decision on the matter?

They discussed it with more than the trade union; they discussed it with me and I did not get a reply.
