Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Employment Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of money expended by the Special Employments Schemes Office in each of the financial years from 1947/48 to 1953/54 and to date in 1954/55 under the following sub-heads: (i) F, Urban Employment, (ii) G, Rural Employment, (iii) H, Minor Employment, (iv) I, Bog Development, and (v) J, Rural Improvements in respect of (a) road schemes, and (b) drainage schemes, and under sub-head K—Miscellaneous—in respect of harbour piers.

Separate figures for road and drainage works are not readily available. The other figures are in the form of a tabular statement which I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

NOTES.

1. Figures under Sub-heads F, H, I and J for 1953/54 and 1954/55 include amounts met from Supplementary Grants from the National Development Fund.

2. All 1954/55 figures are estimated figures for the full year to 31st March, 1955.

3. Sub-heads F and G:—The figures relate to road and amenity schemes, and for the years 1947/48 to 1950/51, inclusive, omit expenditure on Sanitary Services Works, provision for which was transferred to the Vote for the Department of Local Government in 1951/52.

4. Sub-head J:—The figures reflect State grant expenditure only, the figures for 1953/54 and 1954/55 having been adjusted to exclude estimated amounts of local contributions.

5. Sub-head K:—The figures relate to Minor Marine Works only.
