Vol. 150 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin School.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the reason for the delay in providing a new national school at Palmerstown, County Dublin, and if, in view of the urgent need for such a school because of the ever increasing population of the district, he will expedite the matter.

Steps are being taken to provide new schools at Palmerstown, County Dublin, to replace the present Palmerstown National School and to cater for children from new houses in the area.

There was some inevitable delay in securing a site for the new schools; and more recently the question of the accommodation to be provided in the schools had to be reinvestigated, as the number of houses which will be erected in the area will be larger than was originally proposed.

The Commissioners of Public Works will furnish my Department at an early date, with a report as to the suitability of a site which the reverend manager is in a position to offer at present. Provided that the report indicates that the site is acceptable my Department will, as soon as it is received, authorise the reverend manager to employ an architect to prepare plans of the new schools.

The preliminary arrangements for the erection of the schools will necessarily take a considerable time to complete, but every effort will be made to have them dealt with as expeditiously as possible.
