Vol. 151 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour Subsidy.

Mr. Lemass

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the arrangements for the withdrawal of subsidy from flour used in the manufacture of biscuits and confectionery were discussed in advance with the representatives of the manufacturers and of the trade unions of the workers concerned.

The arrangements necessary to give effect to the decision of the Government to the withdraw the subsidy from flour used in the manufacture of biscuits and confectionery —announced in his Budget speech by the Minister for Finance —were discussed with the manufacturing interests concerned before the making of the relevant ministerial Order. The matter was also discussed with representatives of certain trade unions who made representations.
