Vol. 152 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Pier.

asked the Minister for Finance whether there is any prospect of work beginning this year on the proposed improvements at Graughill pier, County Mayo, and, if not, if he will take steps to resolve the difficulties which are holding up the work.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to the question which he addressed to the Minister for Agriculture on the subject of Graughill pier on the 8th June, 1955. It was not until the 2nd July, 1955, that the Commissioners of Public Works received from the Mayo County Council, in reply to their letter of 8th September, 1953, a statement of objections to the scheme of improvements. That statement is under consideration and there will be no avoidable delay in communicating with the county council. There is, however, little prospect of work beginning this year; the nature of the work requires in any case that it be started in spring or early summer.
