Vol. 153 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Defence Forces Pension Rate.

asked the Minister for Defence when it is proposed to grant the rise in pension rate arising out of the Civil Service Arbitration Award to members of the Defence Forces.

I have in preparation a scheme to amend the Defence Forces (Pensions) Schemes, 1937 to 1953, in consequence of the increases in pay granted to personnel of the Permanent Defence Force as from 1st November, 1952.

The amendment will apply to the retired pay, pensions and gratuities of personnel whose retirement or discharge took place since 1st November, 1952.

It will be necessary to have the amending scheme approved by a resolution of each House of the Oireachtas. I hope to seek such approval during the present session.
