Vol. 155 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Ground Limestone.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state, in respect of each of the years 1953/54 to 1955/56, the percentage deducted by C.I.E. from payments in respect of services by private hauliers and owners of ground limestone plants in the transport of ground limestone.

Limestone producers permitted to use their own transport are, I am informed, paid at a rate approximately 7½ per cent. below the rate approved for C.I.E. vehicles, the deductions being the amounts calculated to meet the cost of inspections and other services provided by the company.

I have no information as to the conditions under which C.I.E. engage private hauliers to supplement their own fleet.
