Vol. 157 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Uranium and Thorium Deposits.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether any systematic survey has been undertaken by his Department to determine whether there are any deposits of uranium or thorium to be found in Ireland, and, if so, if he will state the methods used and the results so far achieved.

The geological survey has during the past few years undertaken a systematic survey with geiger counter equipment with a view to determining whether there are any deposits of radioactive minerals, especially uranium and thorium, to be found in this country. The survey has failed to reveal any such deposits which are likely to be capable of commercial development.
