Vol. 157 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour Subsidy Saving.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the source and extent of the saving envisaged in the flour subsidy referred to by the Minister for Finance in his recent Budget statement, (b) the method by which the saving was effected, and (c) whether this practice is to be continued, and, if so, the total estimated saving in this financial year.

The Deputy will find the answers to parts (a) and (b) of his question in the official debates for 4th May, 1955, columns 699-700. The saving realised was £213,000.

The arrangement to withdraw subsidy from flour used in the production of cakes, confectionery and biscuits is still in force. The Estimates for the current financial year were prepared on this basis, so that the question of a saving in this financial year does not arise.
