Vol. 157 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Share Fishermen's Unemployment Benefit.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether the consultations between his Department and the Department of Agriculture in regard to the amendment of Article 7 of the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1953, to permit the payment of unemployment benefit to share fishermen, have yet been completed, and, if so, with what result.

Consultations between my Department and the Department of Agriculture in regard to the matter referred to in the Deputy's question have been completed and it is hoped that a decision in the matter will be made shortly.

I should like to ask the Minister if, in view of the recent decisions of the courts that these people on the 2/- stamp were not self-employed, he will go into the matter?

That is a separate question.

Will the Minister give them a 2/6 stamp as requested?

I do not know whether the court made a decision or not.

Does the Minister read the papers?

Some of them.

There was a court decision.

I stated on an earlier occasion that I would make a decision within three months. I propose to announce a decision next week.
