Written Answers. - Unemployment and Sickness Benefits.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the rate of benefit paid on 1st January, 1947, to (a) an adult male, (b) an adult male with a dependent wife, and (c) an adult male with a dependent wife and two children, in the case of unemployment and sickness, respectively; what changes have been made since and from what date in each case.

The following are the particulars required:—

*The increase of 7/6 was given as a Cash Supplement under an Emergency Powers Order. It was consolidated as unemployment benefit as from 18th August, 1948.

NOTES.

(1) The increase of 7/6 on Sickness and Disablement Benefits shown in Column (2) were given as a Cash Supplement under an Emergency Powers Order. The Supplement was consolidated as sickness and disablement benefit from 4th October, 1948.

(2) Sickness and Disablement Benefit were replaced by one benefit, viz., Disability Benefit under the Social Welfare Act, 1952. Increases for adult dependent and each of two qualified children were introduced under this measure.
