Vol. 157 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New School at Avoca.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the reason for the delay in proceeding with the erection of the new national school at Avoca, County Wicklow.

Certain difficulties, including difficulties in regard to the provision of a suitable site, delayed progress in the making of the preliminary arrangements for the replacement of the existing national school at Avoca, County Wicklow, by a new building.

A grant towards the cost of the erection of the new school has been sanctioned by my Department. I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that working drawings for the scheme have been prepared, but that some further arrangements, which it will necessarily take some time to complete, will have to be made before the commissioners will be in a position to invite tenders. The case will, however, be dealt with as expeditiously as possible, having regard to the heavy programme of work in connection with school building and improvement which the commissioners have on hands.
