The number of new entrants recruited to the Civil Service by competition conducted by the Civil Service Commissioners was 741 in the year ended 31st December, 1953, 595 in the year ended 31st December, 1954, 718 in the year ended 31st December, 1955, and 352 in the quarter ended 31st March, 1956.
