Vol. 157 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wastage in Number of Civil Servants.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total number of civil servants who retired, resigned, died or were dismissed in the years ended 31st December, 1953, 1954 and 1955, and in the quarter ended 31st March, 1956.

According to the Civil Service census the total number of civil servants who retired, resigned, died, were discharged or dismissed was 1,917 in the year ended 31st December, 1953, 1,984 in the year ended 31st December, 1954 and 2,077 in the year ended 31st December, 1955. The last figure is provisional.

There are no figures readily available for the quarter ended 31st March, 1956, but if the Deputy asks for this information again in about three weeks' time I hope to be able to supply it.
