Vol. 159 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Achill Carrageen Moss.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that this year the people of Achill are unable to dispose of carrageen moss, and, if so, if he will make arrangements for the purchase thereof.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy. The carrageen gathering season extends from June to the end of September and buying of the harvest normally continues into October and November. It is not unusual to find the market slow in the early part of the season.
