Written Answers. - Housing for Private Persons.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of 1st October in each of the years 1953 to 1956, inclusive (a) the number of houses for private persons which were under construction, and (b) the total number of men employed on such building operations.

(a) There are no figures in the Department of Local Government of the number of houses actually under construction for private persons. The following figures show the number of new houses at the periods mentioned in respect of which grants had been allocated but payment had not been made in full and they may be taken as reasonably indicative of relative trends during the period in question.

(b) There is no information in the Department of Local Government as to the number of men employed on the building operations of private persons.
