Vol. 160 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Advisory Councils and Similar Bodies: Local Government.

Major de Valera

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will enumerate and name, stating the purpose and function of each one, the several advisory or consultative councils, commissions, committees and similar bodies appointed by him since 1st June, 1954.

On 4th October, 1955, I appointed a working committee consisting of a number of local officers and officers of the Department with the following terms of reference:—

"To consider matters affecting co-operation between local housing authorities and the Department, particularly in relation to the preparation, approval and financing of housing schemes."

I also appointed a working committee with similar functions and constitution in relation to the planning and execution of water and sewerage schemes by sanitary authorities.

In November, 1955, I appointed a working committee to consider and arrange for the application of the techniques of organisation and methods to the office staffs of local authorities.

On 6th October, 1956, I reconstituted the Dublin Housing Consultative Council, which was originally established in April, 1948, with terms of reference related to the co-ordination of housing activities in Dublin City and County.
