Vol. 161 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Housing Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of houses required in Limerick City to solve the housing problem, and the number of persons, as distinct from families, in need of rehousing.

In a report submitted to the Limerick Corporation on the 27th April, 1957, the city manager estimated that 1,353 houses were required to meet the present housing need of persons living in unfit dwellings or in overcrowded conditions in the city.

A local investigation into the housing needs position was carried out last week by officers of the Department in association with the corporation's officers. A report on the findings of the investigation is at present in course of preparation.

I have no information at present as to the number of persons, as distinct from families, who are in need of rehousing in the city.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the position with regard to the Island Road housing scheme in Limerick City.

The layout and house plans for the Island Road housing scheme have been approved in principle and the submission of final documents is awaited.
