Vol. 162 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farmers' Co-operative Enterprises.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, in order to extend the practice of co-operation among the farmers, the Government will agree to initiate schemes for loans to suitable groups of farmers in order to provide the initial capital required to set up productive co-operative enterprises.

Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Moylan)

Having regard to the credit facilities already available through the Agricultural Credit Corporation Limited for general agricultural purposes, including the making of advances to farmers and co-operative societies for the establishment and expansion of enterprises designed for the service of farmers, as well as the provision of working capital for their business, I am not aware of any need for the initiation of special schemes of the kind referred to by the Deputy.
