asked the Minister for Education if he will state when the building of the national school in Brittas, County Dublin, will commence; and what is responsible for the long delay.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Brittas (Dublin) School.
I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that the contractor whose tender for the erection of the proposed new national school at Brittas has been accepted hopes to commence building operations this week.
It was necessary to defer, for some considerable time, the invitations of tenders in the case, because it was found that the contractual commitments of the Commissioners of Public Works in respect of expenditure of grants in the financial year 1956-57 on works on national schools which had already been proceeding would fully exhaust the amount provided in the Estimates under Vote 9, for that year.
