Vol. 166 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Insurance Retirement Pensions.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state whether under the terms of the social insurance reciprocal agreement with Britain the increased rates of retirement pension now in force in Britain are payable to pensioners thereunder resident in the State and, if not, whether he will make representations to the appropriate British Minister for an amendment of the agreement.

The reciprocal agreement with Great Britain does not extend to retirement pensions and accordingly its terms do not provide for the payment of the recent increase in retirement pension to pensioners resident in this country. In the circumstances the question of making representations to the appropriate British Minister for amendment of the agreement does not arise.

Every opportunity is, however, taken to raise matters of this nature from which benefit would accrue to residents of this country with the British Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance.
