Vol. 168 No. 6

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as on the Order Paper, Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 5 (Votes 37 and 45 as on the Order Paper) then Nos. 2 and 6 the introduction of No. 1 being necessary to discharge No. 12. If the debate on the Finance Bill concludes before 8 p.m., it is proposed to interrupt No. 5 to take the Transport Bill, Nos. 2 and 6. It is proposed that consideration of Government business be not interrupted to-day at the time fixed for the taking of Private Members' business.

If the debate on the Finance Bill does not finish before 8 p.m. but finishes say, at 9 p.m., I assume that we will go on to the Estimates?

The Transport Bill.

If it does not finish before 8——

We shall continue the Finance Bill.

If the Finance Bill finishes before 10.30 to-night we can take the Transport Bill?

That is not what the Minister said.

No, it is not. If the debate concludes before 8 o'clock it is proposed to take the Transport Bill, to interrupt No. 5.

If it overruns 8 o'clock will we not take the Transport Bill to-day at all?

Yes. We shall not take the Education Vote.

If the Finance Bill goes on until 9 o'clock and it concludes, the Minister for Industry and Commerce will move the Financial Resolutions and the Committee Stage of the Transport Bill?

Might I ask your permission, Sir, to raise the subject matter of Question No. 5 on to-day's Order Paper on the return of the Tánaiste?

I shall communicate with the Deputy in the course of the afternoon.

What will happen to-morrow? Is it proposed to finish the Transport Bill or go back to Education?

I assume that is a matter for arrangement with the Whips, but I take it we shall continue with the Transport Bill.

We shall finish the Bill.

You will not be on the Bill. You will be on the Financial Resolutions.

We shall take the Transport Bill. The reason for the arrangement to-day is that the Tánaiste will be away until 8 o'clock.

The idea is that we finish the Second Reading of the Finance Bill and the Committee Stage of the Transport Bill?

No. If we finish the Finance Bill before 8 o'clock, we resume on the Vote for Education.

I am not trying to trip the Minister, but supposing we get back to the Estimates, do we drop the Estimates at 8 o'clock?

We shall finish the Finance Bill and the Committee Stage of the Transport Bill before returning to the Estimates.

No. If the Finance Bill finishes before 8 o'clock we go on to the Education Estimate until 8. Then we interrupt the Education Estimate at 8 o'clock, take the Transport Bill and continue with the discussion on the Committee Stage of the Transport Bill until it is completed.
