Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Polio Cases and Deaths.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the number of (i) cases of polio notified and (ii) deaths from polio in each of the last five years.

The number of cases of poliomyelitis notified in 1953 was 245; in 1954 was 82; in 1955 was 119; in 1956 was 499; and in 1957 was 148.

In the same years, the number of deaths was 31, 14, 3, 20 and, last year, 13. The last mentioned figure is provisional.
