Vol. 168 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Workers: Bonus Scheme.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will give particulars of the bonus scheme for forestry workers.

The incentive bonus scheme provides for payment to each worker of a guaranteed minimum on time-rate, with additional earnings for productivity in excess of a stipulated level. Productivity is uniformly measured by job evaluation in terms of standard time allowance per unit of work, job evaluation being on a work-study basis. Part of the incentive bonus is subject to work quality requirements to ensure satisfactory workmanship.

The scheme was introduced in April, 1958, and has so far been applied to six forests. It will gradually be extended to all other forests.

I hope to make a fuller statement on the matter in the Forestry Estimate debate which will take place shortly. If, in the meantime, the Deputy desires more detailed information, I shall be glad to furnish it.
