Vol. 170 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Corporal Punishment Incident.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has completed his investigation into the corporal punishment incident, which was the subject of a court action, at Bally-hooley national school; if so, what are his conclusions concerning the culpability of the teacher involved; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

The investigation of this case has been completed and appropriate official action has been taken in the matter. It is not the practice to disclose the nature of the official action taken in such cases.

Could the Minister tell me whether that person is still employed as principal of the school?

That is so.

Does the Minister really believe, in view of the decision of the court, that this is a fit person to be principal of a school?
