Vol. 171 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Congestion in Mayo Townlands.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress has been made towards the elimination of congestion in the townlands of Ballinhoe and Bohogue, County Mayo.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply of 30th October, 1957, to a previous question by him in this matter. If the tenants concerned are now willing to co-operate, the Land Commission will formulate a scheme for rearrangement of the holdings, utilising some 110 acres of untenanted lands on hands for that purpose.

Would the Minister say if it is proposed to make any migrations from these townlands?

I understand that mass migration is not practicable, but the commission might consider migration.

The Land Commission will scarcely get the co-operation the Minister mentioned in the earlier part of his reply if that is the case.

Everything is being done to get co-operation.

There is only one way to get it.
