Vol. 173 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Congestion.

40.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission are aware of the acute congestion in the townlands of Rossinrubble, Rossglave and other neighbouring townlands near Newport, County Mayo; and if they will avail of the offer for sale in this locality of a large farm, which would alleviate the plight of these uneconomic holders.

The Land Commission are aware that congestion exists in this district and are taking practical steps to relieve it. With this in view, they have already acquired an area of 87 acres in the locality and have instituted proceedings for a further acquisition. It is understood that the farm to which the Deputy refers has already been sold.

I did not catch the last part of the Minister's answer.

It is understood that the farm to which the Deputy refers has already been sold.

Did the Land Commission reconsider the acquisition of it at any stage?

At some stage previously, they did consider the acquisition of it.

That is, recently? In the last year or two? Or, is the Minister referring to a few years back?

The Deputy had better ask another question about that. I have not got the exact date.
