asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the cost in the current year of the increases announced in the Budget in respect of (a) old age pensions, (b) widows' pensions and (c) unemployment assistance.

The estimated costs in the current financial year of the increased social assistance payments announced by the Minister for Finance in his Budget statement are as follows:—

(a) Old age pensions

£694,500

(b) Widows' (Non-contributory) pensions

£108,500

(c) Unemployment assistance

£57,000
