asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of pupils who failed the Primary Certificate examination on account of failing in Irish.

Of the 39,164 pupils who sat for the Primary Certificate examination in 1958, 3,007 failed the examination because of their failure in Irish. The final figures for 1959 are not yet available.
