asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of pupils who failed the Intermediate Certificate examination on account of failing in Irish.

Of the 2,296 unsuccessful candidates at the Intermediate Certificate examination, 1959, 528 would have passed the examination but for their failure to obtain pass marks in Irish.
